Hello friends, happy Sunday! I hope this post finds you in as cheery a mood as I am, because we’re celebrating! Today, April 27th, is the blog birthday! On this very day thirteen(!) years ago - a Friday, according to legend - I sat down and started the first iteration of the blog that would eventually grow into the Passionate Baker Travels we all know and love today! 13 YEARS! That’s the age of Husband’s nephew and, truthfully, the fact that I’m able to equate the length of time I’ve had this blog to the grown-ness of a human makes me feel super proud for sticking with it this whole time! I love having my very own nook on the internet, and I’m hopeful that I’ll continue posting on this space for at least another 13+ years!
Over the course of our 4,748 days together, I’ve shared 327 posts: 147 recipes, 74 travel guides, 84 monthly musing posts, and 22 miscellaneous posts about bucket lists/cookbook club/thanksgiving roundups, etc. The blog has experienced a few variations over our time together: from straight-up baking blog to a baking & travel blog to a mainly travel blog, from Passionate Baker to Passionate Baker Travels, from Tumblr to WordPress to Substack, and many other boring background blog stuff that no one cares about. On a personal level, the blog has also seen me: finish college, go through three relationships and just as many jobs, enjoy two delightful years of self-unemployment, get married, survive a pandemic, make some travel dreams come through, get pregnant, and so! much! more!
Normally I’d share a recipe for a birthday cake or something fun & loaded with ice-cream — I don’t have anything like that for you today. Instead, I just wanted to drop by with a quick word of thanks. I love having this space as my very own, and I love the headspace it gives me — the fact that you’re following along on the journey is just the icing on top of an already fantastic cake. Thank you for being here, for reading the guides, baking the recipes, and showing up week after week! It means the world to me ❤️
I hope you have the most lovely Sunday!
Hugs,
Vicki xo
PS, the cake pictured above is my Mondrian art cake from 2021; classy on the outside, and a complete colour-bomb on the inside! Husband at the time took to calling it my trojan horse cake - very apt! No such cake is gracing our lives today, but we are going out for a celebratory strawberry ‘shake, so I’m happy!
