Friends, hello! Happy weekend and happy April! Welcome to our Monthly Musings: April 2025 post — I hope it finds you healthy, happy, and in the mood for a light bit of celebrating because man oh man have I got news for you! Are you ready? Do you have all of your arms and legs inside the ride? Yes? Okay, here it comes… Husband and I are having a baby! As of right this moment, I’m 15-weeks + 4-days pregnant, and, my goodness, what a whirlwind of alll the emotions they’ve been! The two of us are absolutely over the moon with happiness and not being able to write about it here the last few months has been near impossible! We finally shared the news with all of our friends & extended family members last week, and it’s so lovely having the news out there in the world!
With the weight of that secret off my chest, I feel like my Sunday can truly begin! Do you have any plans for the sunny day ahead of us? Husband and I are off out to meet my grandmother & birthday boy father for a stroll on the seafront with an ice-cream; can you think of a more appropriately Sunday activity? I think not! Our monthly musings are listed below, littered with all the usual suspects & then some.
Enjoy, friends!
monthly musings: april 2025
Since you asked (😉), here’s a speedy baby recap: the baby is due end of September, and thus far, we’ve had an NIPT, the standard 12-week ultrasound, and our first appointment with the midwives — all of which have gone swimmingly! I’ve also: developed a deep-seeded aversion to all things beef, become obsessed with my pregnancy pillow, and, as of about three-ish weeks ago, had the most adorable little bump start to show! Obviously, it wasn’t all rainbows — the first trimester essentially saw me a) sleeping more than I ever thought possible, & b) eating like crazy all during the day, before feeling horrifically nauseous in the evenings — but, by and large, things have been going so! well! Please keep your fingers and toes crossed for us that things carry on this way!

Also, now that the cat is out of the bag, the baby — who, btdubz, will henceforth be referred to as Baby Bean — is the reason I went down like a ton of bricks last month! The horrible cough/flu thing I had just wouldn’t budge and when I went to my doctor about it she looked at me like I had four heads for being surprised; during the first trimester, pregnant women’s immune system is basically non-existent. And, because I was only 10-weeks pregnant at the time, she didn’t want me to take any antibiotics — hence being signed off for a week and told to rest. It was a lot, but that week off did me the world of good! I still have the tiniest hint of cough/flu grudgingly lingering, but I’ve definitely turned a corner in the last week, so things are looking up!

In case you missed it, I shared a new travel post last month: A Return to London, England! It’s a super quick yet informative guide about everything we got up to on our latest visit — namely, all the foodie spots we managed to squeeze in, and the lightest tourist-ing this blog has potentially ever seen. Sidenote: in the post, I mentioned how much we enjoyed our sausage rolls from GAIL’s and, after a little digging online, I’ve managed to find their recipe! This filling with some homemade puff pastry would be *chef’s kiss* — if only I was still in the habit of making fresh puff pastry. Sigh.

In related travel news: Husband and I are finally heading off on our first trip of the year this month! It’ll be a flying visit, but we’re popping over to Bristol for a quick weekend getaway, and I’m so excited! Initially we were looking at Bristol simply as a gateway to Bath, but after taking a closer look at Bristol itself, we decided it seemed perfect for our speedy adventure! Neither of us have ever been before, so if you have any recommendations, foodie or otherwise, please hit me up!

Also related: we’ve booked our babymoon! A babymoon, for those of you thinking I just made that word up to go away again - hi, Mom! -, is essentially one last trip away together as a couple before the baby comes. We all know I’m always on the lookout for any excuse to travel, so there was no way I was letting this one pass us by! It took us a little while to decide where to go, but we eventually settled on Gdańsk, Poland! We’ll be spending 5 glorious days in Gdańsk and neighbouring Sopot - the ancestral home of my great-grandmother! - just before hitting the 23rd week of pregnancy, and oof it’s gonna be so good! Have you visited the northern Polish city before? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

What have you been watching lately? TV-wise, we’ve taken a brief hiatus from our The Affair rewatch and instead have been devouring The White Lotus S3 as soon as the new episodes are released — it’s so good! We’ve loved the show since S1, but this season’s characters feel especially realistic? My favourite characters are the three women besties - their storyline makes me feel so tense and giddy with anxiety, it’s perfect! - and Parker Posey’s crazy character. If you’re not already watching, would highly recommend. Movie-wise, we are unexpectedly in the middle of a John Travolta season! I’m not too sure how it happened, but we’ve already watched Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction, and Hairspray, so I’d say it’s going pretty well! Am I a newfound Travolta convert? Perhaps! What are your Travolta-related thoughts?

I took a brief break from reading My Roman Year last month to instead devour Richard Osman’s latest novel, We Solve Murders, which I really enjoyed! The sheer Englishness of the characters genuinely had me laughing out loud at times, and I generally found it to be really very good escapism reading. What are you reading at the mo’? I’m justttt about finished MRY so am on the lookout for my next read!

April is the blog birthday month, and it’s high time we had a new recipe around these parts! I’m still making the final call on what bake to celebrate with, but in the meantime, this Triple Chocolate Birthday Cake is always a winner! Four layers of delightfully light chocolate cake, sandwiched together with whipped milk chocolate frosting, and drizzled with a dark chocolate glaze. Yes, please!
And there we have it, Monthly Musings: April 2025! Potentially my most exciting monthly musings post ever? I still can’t believe that we’re actually having a baby - eeeeep! Let’s catch up again next month, shall we?
My love to you,
Vicki xo
